Female Golden Knee Tarantula

I Reared 6 of these beautiful Tarantulas brought from different suppliers, as small slings and sold them all except for a male and female, as I liked this specie's so much I decided to keep a female indoors in a Exo Terra Terrarium which has been designed by European herpetologists and is one of the best display terrarium for your favourite spider.
This is a huge species my spider when only a young juvenile/ adult was given a large hissing cockroach, this is a huge beetle, it spent all day eating it and I was surprised that it left nothing, it had eating the hard shell, legs everything, and following week still ate five large crickets.
The golden yellow striping on the legs shows more after each skin change, also has long pinkish hairs, egg sacks are large and can contain up to 800 eggs. My spiders have large clay flower pots to hide in but spend most of there time stretched out in the open so they do make a nice display spider, a joy to keep and very docile to handle, highly recommended.

I was hopping to breed my large female but unfortunately it was one disaster after another, the female Chaco threw her egg sac out of her nursery, only to discover there were a few hungry mealworm beetles munching the eggs. I did not know there were any mealworms hidden in the substrate, so it was my fault, a year later three weeks after a second mating, which I witnessed, so there was no problems during mating, she mysteriously died, very quickly.
This was a huge disappointment especially as I had sold all the other I had brought, I never expected the male to outlive the female, never buried a spider in garden before, really sad. So now like the picture taken in a local cemetery, she really is at rest. RIP.

Most of my spiders get sold on once I have enough photographs, but this is probably one the few species I would buy again, as it is such a lovely spider to own.
I have since replaced her with a Red Chile, which is the only spider I am keeping indoors.  Andy Newman©  14/07/11.
