A very common Fritillary butterfly that I often see in a favourite place, when out filming.
It prefers coastal dunes and open grasslands, which is where I normally see them, at the edge of a large wheat field at Farley Mount, near Winchester, UK. Feeding on Thistle and Knapweed flowers as my pictures above. After a while this powerful flying butterfly seem to trust me with my camera, and I end up with loads of nice pictures. Easily recognizable from the dotted pearly white spots over, olive green tinges on the underside of their wings. There main food plant is Common Dog-violet, There is usually one generation per year.
