  Common Earth-ball Fungi (Scleroderma Citrinum)      Location: New Forest National Park

A very common poisonous fungi, which has a tough outer skin, covered in warty scales, grows in acid soils, and I often see them growing just of paths in pine forests in the New Forest, The rounded fruitbody is attached to the ground by white mycelial. When Eventualy the skin of the earth-ball ruptures and clouds of spores can be seen leaving a large opening, dispersed by the wind and the rain.
