Robins Pin-Cusion Gall (Diplolepis Rosae)

This brightly coloured gall on a dog rose is a adnormal growth created by a tiny wasp (diplolepis rosae). The wasp grubs remain inside the dead gall over the winter before hatching into wasps in the spring.
