Brazilian Salmon - Pink Bird Eating Spider (Lasiodora Parahybana)

This is my largest and longest living Tarantula that I have kept for my photography I have kept her for over 16 years now, and this female has grown to a huge size. I measured her latest skin over 9” This Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater is one of the largest spiders in the world, can reach to 10 inches. Many years ago I thought it was clever to hold on of these spiders with my bare hands, showing my work colleagues, by turning it over and showing its underside and its large fangs, well the spider did not struggle but my hand swelled so much for most of the day and itched badly for a few days, so I will never do that again,

For a large spider it is the most delicate eaters, as whatever size of live food I place in it enclosure it will always only eat one at a time, where all my other spiders collect as many as they can carry. Although she will rarely turn down a cricket, or larger prey, chasing it at speed, sometimes before my hand is out of its tank. It spends most of its time resting half out of a large flower pot always face forwards so it makes a great display tarantula. It has not shown any aggression towards me, and she does not seem to be worried about my disturbance when feeding, changing water or cleaning the tank. But when trying to move her for my photography she sometimes kicks large clouds of irritating hairs, once she did not want to be moved, and I found out how incredibly strong these animals can be.
