Our largest fritillary butterfly in the UK. It has beautiful streaks of silver on the underside of its wing, from which it gets its name, the female is lighter than the male. I really enjoyed watching this large butterfly graceful flight between feeding on flowers, and wish I had taken more pictures at the time. There is only one generation a year, there main food plant is Common Dog-violet. Common in woodland glades which is where I filmed this butterfly at Farley Mount, near Winchester, UK.
