Small Copper Butterfly (Lycaena Phlaeas)

I spotted these pretty butterflies on the edge of a field surrounded by forest, bathing in the sun on one bare patch of dead grass. Taken on the 14/05/06 at Bishopstoke, Hampshire, UK. Depending on the weather there can be anything up to 2 to 4 generations a year. The adult butterflies first hatch in May, and this species hibernate as young caterpillars, there favorite food plant is sheep’s sorroel, also can be found feeding on Broad-leaved Dock.
