European Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio Machaon Gorganus)

On holiday in Spain with my family, we were waiting for the taxi to go to the airport, when this beautiful European  Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio Machaon Gorganus) flew down beside us feeding on the flowers, in the holiday resort. I had to compete with my daughter who kept placing her compact camera in front of mine, but I did manage a few nice pictures.  I had just finished taking over 800 pictures on landscapes and family pictures, so it was a lovely end to a wonderful holiday. Photographs taken at Sanguli holiday resort, Salou, Spain. on the 12-09-09. Although this butterfly is a rare migrant to the south coast of the UK, our British race (Papilio Machaon Britannicus) is now restricted to the Norfolk Broads, England. Where they can bee seen flying over wet fen vegetation. Caterpillars from are native race feed solely on Milk-parsley (Peucedanum Palustre) Butterflies feed on a variety of flowers.
A large strong-flying butterfly which I enjoyed watching flying in the wild, so much that I think I would like to rear some in the near future, buying captive bred from a butterfly farm
