As the Tarantulas exoskeleton cannot grow, it has to develop a new exoskeleton inside the old skin. It is at this stage they can regenerate lost limbs and replace any lost urticating hairs. This process is called molting, young spiders and females molt as adults, except adult males which rarely molt.
